Stara Zagora is a large city in central Bulgaria, located at the crossroads of railways and highways. It is located in the north of the Upper Thracian Plain on the southern slopes of the Sredna Gora mountain range. Stara Zagora is considered a city of poets, linden trees and brewers.
In ancient times, as now, the Stara Zagora area was a crossroads.

Even in the 6th millennium BC the Neolithic tribes lived here, as evidenced by archaeological finds. In the ancient period, the Thracians settled here and built the city of Beroe. In the following centuries it was captured by the Macedonians, and the Romans in the 2nd century BC renamed Beroe in Augustus Trajan. Krum, the founder of the Bulgarian kingdom, returned the ancient name to the city in the 9th century.

Later Stara Zagora was conquered by the Byzantines, then the Turks, and the city changed its name several times - Vereya, Borui, Eski Hisar (Old Fortress). The modern name appeared only in 1871. During the period of the Second Bulgarian Empire (12-14th century) Beroe was the center of Zagore region from which the town received its present name. In 1877-78 during the Bulgarian War of Independence Stara Zagora was razed to the ground for the third time in history. Today the town is characterized by a perpendicular layout and a small number of surviving structures of the past centuries.

Stara Zagora is a cultural center of Central Bulgaria. Among the sights the most famous is the Burket Grave - the largest prehistoric settlement on the territory of the country. In the National Militia Park there is a 50-meter high monument at the Chadir Grave, symbolizing the 100th anniversary of the Liberation War.

This memorial complex is called "Branits" (Defenders). The Mefodiy Kusev Park, an artificial recreational area with a zoo, botanical garden, sports fields, monuments and the Theodore Tiron Church is very popular. In Stara Zagora there is a history museum, an ethnographic museum, an observatory with a planetarium, an art gallery. In some areas of the Old Town there are remnants of ancient buildings.
