Marienplatz is the central square of Munich, the center of the pedestrian zone and one of the main attractions of the city center. The New and Old Munich Town Halls are located on Marienplatz, and the Kaufingerstrasse (Kaufingerstrasse) starts from here, where there are many shops.
The Marienplatz area is also home to the historic Viktualienmarkt market, Munich's largest Frauenkirche cathedral, and many other attractions.
Near Marienplatz is a major hub of Munich public transport: here the U3 and U6 lines of the Munich metro intersect with the central branch of the Munich S-Bahn.
