Kirzhach is a small town in the Vladimir region, located on the river of the same name, 90 kilometers from the capital of Russia. The area of the settlement is 30 square kilometers.
The first mention of a settlement on the site of modern Kirzhach is dated 1332. In 1778 the settlements of Kirzhach and Selivanova Gora were transformed into a county town. A few years later the coat of arms and the master plan of the town were approved.
In the 19th century the main occupations of the inhabitants of Kirzhach were silk weaving and carpentry.
In 1856 the village had 260 houses, three churches, and fourteen stores.
In 1896, Kirzhach had eight silk weaving enterprises and production of bronze and copper utensils, and the population was more than 3.6 thousand people.
In autumn 1917, a Council of Workers' Deputies was formed in the town.
In 1931 a factory for the production of copper and brass ware was converted into a factory of lighting fixtures "Avtosvet". A year later the Solovyovs' factories were formed into a silk factory.
During the Great Patriotic War in Kirzhach was formed 36th Guards Rifle Division, and the training of pilots and paratroopers.
In the postwar years at the city's airfield was parachute training of famous pilots and astronauts.
In 1944 Kirzhach was given the status of an administrative center of the Kirzhach district of the Vladmir region.
In 2005 the township of Krasny Oktyabr was annexed to the territory of Kirzhach.
