The Chugach Mountains or Chugach Mountains are a mountain range in the state of Alaska. Geologically, the range belongs to the Pacific Cordillera, located in southern Alaska east of the Kenai Peninsula to the western part of the St. Elijah Mountains. Chugach is bounded by the Matanuska and Copper River valleys. On the peaks — glaciers with an area of 21.6 thousand km2, the largest — Bering (5800 km2), Columbia (1370 km2), Matanuska. Some glaciers on the southern slopes collapse into the fjords of the Gulf of Alaska. The highest point is Mount Marcus-Baker (4016 m).
