Webcam Stolac. Panorama
Stolac is often called an open-air museum: everything in this small town breathes history.
And it begins in the times of ancient Rome, when Dilluntum was built on the site of present-day Stolac. Now most vividly represented in Stolac is the Ottoman period of Bosnian-Herzegovinian history. There are some from later, Austrian period. And on the outskirts there are monuments from the 14th and 15th centuries, the Bogomil steches.
The most impressive structure in Stolac is the Vidos fortress on the hill above the town, the most powerful fortress in Herzegovina in the 17th and 18th centuries.
The Bregava riverbed within Stolac is protected by law as a natural-historical monument. Without the river, the town would not exist: it feeds its gardens, it has been turning the mill wheels and driving the stupas for the weaving of cloth for centuries. All the city's prosperity was based on the generous energy of the river. Bregava is unthinkable without mills and numerous bridges. And it is also very beautiful - shimmering turquoise, bouncing off waterfalls, running off into branches and rejoining in one stream.
