In 1288 the Düsseldorf Castle was built on the banks of the Rhine, and the interior of the castle was called the "town square", Burgplatz.
The place was constantly rebuilt, made open access to the river and piers. Of the Dusseldorf castle since then has remained a castle tower, which is now a museum of navigation and shipping.
Nowadays, book fairs, Japan and France days, bicycle races, jazz festivals, and many other events are held on this square every year. From the Burgplatz you can walk along the Düsseldorf waterfront.
