Porto Carras is one of the most famous resorts in Halkidiki, and indeed in Northern Greece. Originally conceived as a chain of luxury hotels, today it has become an independent resort, which has become famous for its loyalty not only to hotel guests, but also to guests - the entrance to the picturesque beach of Porto Carras is free to all comers.
In 1960 a sailor Yannis Karras bought a plot of land in Halkidiki, destroyed by a violent storm. The idea to build a hotel on the spot was born and so begins the fairy tale story of Porto Carras, one of the first hotels ever built in Halkidiki.
Apart from the three hotels and one summer villa, Porto Carras has olive groves and vineyards, a private winery, a spa resort, a private port, a golf course and a private 9 km long beach. Moreover, Porto Carras has a casino, hippodrome, theater with cinema, a large shopping center, playground for children and even a sightseeing train to explore the surrounding area.
Porto Carras is the largest thalassotherapy center in Southeast Europe.
