The village of Oktyabrsky was founded in 1897 and was the station farm Novo-Alekseevsky.
In 1951, during the construction of the Tsimlyanskoye water reservoir, the farms of Verkhne-Kurmoyarskiy district were moved there and the village was named Kruglyakov. By decision of the executive committee of the Stalingrad Regional Council of People's Deputies on October 10, 1957 № 22/553 the village Kruglyakov was renamed the village Oktyabrsky.

District settlement Oktyabrsky is located in the southern part of the Volgograd region, the distance to Volgograd - 120 km. It occupies an area of 1029 hectares, with a population of 6,145 people.

The settlement has two schools, a hospital, two kindergartens, a church, stores, a local market, a dairy plant, construction organizations, and two recreation and cultural institutions. Many residential and office buildings are connected to the central gas and heat supply.

There is a railway station, road with bus service. In the village has more than 40 km of paved roads, 38 km of water supply networks, the length of intrasettlement gas pipelines is 64.6 km, 18 km of heating networks.
In the vicinity of the village is the river Aksai, a green area. On the territory of the village on Green Island is a stadium.

At 1.5 km to the east there is a deposit of raw materials suitable for the manufacture of ceramic bricks. In 1959 in the village began work oil depot, in 1961 created the October inter-district department of "Agricultural Machinery", in 1972 opened the bakery, in 1974 built Zhutovsky elevator.
