Lorsch is a city in Hesse, Germany. It is subordinated to the administrative district of Darmstadt. It is part of the Bergstrasse district. The city is known for its monastery (Kloster Lorsch), founded in 764, and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1991 as the Benedictine Abbey and Altenmunster Monastery. Part of it is the Carolingian Gate (Karolingische Torhalle) — the only fully surviving building of the Carolingian era.
