Online Camera Yaroslavl. Bolshaya Oktyabrskaya Street, Lisitsyn Street

After the approval of the regular plan in 1778 on the map of Yaroslavl appeared a new street, which stretched from Ilyinskaya Square (now - Sovetskaya Square) to the area near the church of Paraskeva Pyatnitsa in Vspolye (was demolished in the early 1930s).

The new street was named Bolshaya Rozhdestvenskaya after the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Church situated near the walls of the Spaso-Preobrazhensky Monastery in 1730-1930. Commonly the street was also called Rozhdestvenskaya or simply - Rozhdestvenka. In 1918 the street was renamed in honor of the October Revolution of 1917. - Bolshaya Oktyabrskaya. In August, 1984, a part of the street from the Soviet square to Pervomaiskaya street was renamed into Nahimson street.

The oldest monument of architecture on the street is church of Demetrius of Thessaloniki. Its appearance is attributed to the reign of Dmitry Donskoy, and the dedication is associated with Demetrius of Thessaloniki, the heavenly patron of the prince and the victory of his troops in the battle of Kulikovo.

The first documentary evidence of the wooden church dates back to the 16th century. The wooden churches of the parish burned down in a fire in 1658. Construction of the stone church building was completed in 1673. The warm church in the name of the Praise of the Mother of God, which stands alone, was built in 1749.
