Mount Redoubt, Alaska - Stronghold is an active and recently erupted stratovolcano in the U.S. state of Alaska. It stands at an altitude of 2,700 m. It achieved its strongest activity in the 20th century in 1902, 1966, and 1989. In the last eruption in 2009, 6 explosions were recorded that sent a plume of ash more than 9 miles into the air. It was the largest volcanic outburst in almost 20 years. The official name of the mountain from the English translation means the Russian name "Redutskaya Hill", which means "fortified place". This name was given to the mountain in 1981 by geographical names.
