Webcam Debrecen. Kossuth Square
Debrecen is the second largest city in Hungary, also known as the capital of the Great Hungarian Plain (Alfölda). It is located at some distance from Budapest. Debrecen is also called the "Calvinist Rome": the history of the city is closely connected with this religious denomination. There are not many English-speaking people here compared to the capital, but the locals are always warm and kind to newcomers.
The square Koshut is the center of the city. The Great Reformed Church is located here and nearby stands a monument to Laos Kossuth, a statesman who became prime minister and then president during the Hungarian Revolution of 1848-1849. In front of the monument is the coat of arms of Debrecen, made in the form of a mosaic.
Next to it is a large fountain of the Millennium. The structure is decorated with ornaments with Hungarian conquerors and a phoenix as a symbol of the rebirth of the city and the nation, no matter what.
