Webcam Peniscola. Playa de Norte promenade and beach
The Spanish resort of Peniscola is a small but very pleasant old town on the Mediterranean Sea, standing on the picturesque coast "Costa del Azahar". It is one of the most visited places for holidays in Spain. The resort of Peñiscola belongs to the province of Castellon and is located a couple of hours drive from Valencia. Peniscola is famous for its stunning white sandy beaches - one of the best in Spain and interesting historical sites related to the outstanding personalities of the country.
The history of the city of Peñíscola began many centuries ago, over the years it has gone through many difficult pages: wars, invasions, raids. For a long time there was a huge fishing port and a small settlement with a convenient strategic location.
The original buildings of the town were located on a piece of land in the form of a fist, pointing towards the open sea. This "fist" was to have a protective function and guard the entrance to the local harbor. The promontory, which protruded into the sea, was connected to the mainland by a narrow isthmus, and even then, in bad weather, it was covered by the water column, making access to the settlement of Peñiscola inaccessible to outsiders.
This part of the Spanish coast was once home to the Greeks, the Romans, the Iberians, the Carthaginians and the Byzantines, all of whom contributed to the creation of the great Spanish culture and architecture. See the heritage of ancient civilizations, you can, walking through the old narrow streets of the old part of Peñíscola, which, snaking smoothly down to the sea and a small port, soaked scents of fish and dried in the sun networks.
Not far from the historic center of the city are two city beaches. The 5.5 km long Playa de Norte stretches along the promenade with restaurants, stores and entertainment venues, from the Castle of "Pope Luna" to Benicarlo, a neighboring resort town. Covered in fine golden sand, Playa de Norte is characterized by a relatively gentle descent into the water and a smooth sandy bottom. Wave height in this part of the coast is medium.
During the bathing season, the water temperature reaches +25°C. Playa de Norte is equipped with showers, toilets, cabins for changing. There is a rental of deck chairs, umbrellas, sun loungers. You can rent jet skis, canoes, water skis and parasailing boats. Playa de Norte is very busy. Among the vacationers a lot of tourists from France, Germany, Britain, the Spaniards from different areas of the country.
In some distance is the beach Playa Sur, surrounded by the ruins of an ancient fortress wall. It is always semi-deserted here. There are few tourists among the small public. Near Playa Sur, there is a maritime school where windsurfing, kayaking and paddling lessons are offered.
In the vicinity of Peniscola are also secluded stony beaches of Playa de la Petxina, Playa del Russo, Playa de las Viudas, where snorkeling enthusiasts have settled.
