Jebel is a town in the Kardzhali region in southern Bulgaria. It is the administrative center of Jebel municipality. The nearest town to it is Momchilgrad. The distance to the regional center is 24 kilometers. There are no enterprises on the territory of the municipality, polluting the air, soil and water.
The community center is surrounded by coniferous forests and located among picturesque nature, which makes the town an attractive tourist destination.
Djebel is located in the southeastern part of the Rhodope Mountains at an altitude of 340 m above sea level. It is the administrative and economic center of the homonymous community, the main advantage of which is the purity of the environment and unspoiled nature of the region. Jebel stands on the left bank of the Dermendere River, which is a tributary of the Vyrbica River. Vyrbica.

In ancient times, the area was inhabited by Thracian tribes. In later times, the area where the city is now located was part of the Roman Empire, and later - the Byzantine Empire. In the IX century. it belonged to the First Bulgarian Kingdom. From the second half of the 14th century the Rhodopes were conquered by the Turkish conquerors. After the end of the Balkan wars the area was annexed to Bulgaria.
The first known name of the village at the site of today's town of Djebel was Shehjumaya, renamed in 1934 to Djebel. The settlement was declared a city in 1969.
