Krasnoye Selo (before 1617 - Dudorovsky Pogost, before 1765 - Krasnoye) is a city in Russia, an inner-city municipality within the Krasnoselsky district of the city of federal significance of St. Petersburg.

In 1709 Peter I decided to build Russia's first paper mill, and chose a site in the valley of the Dudergofka River for the job. As soon as construction of the mill began, he settled here the workforce - serfs. They were to oversee the production of paper products.

It is not known for certain where the name of the city came from: whether it was because the serfs were brought from Krasnoye Selo in the Moscow region, or because the place was beautiful. It is worth noting that in Petrine times many villages were called "red", i.e. beautiful.

Krasnoye Selo is located right in the middle of forests and lakes, which makes it incredibly appealing to connoisseurs of outdoor recreation.
