Bude is a town by the sea in northeast Cornwall, England, in the civil parish of Bude-Stratton and at the mouth of the River Neath (also known as the River Strath).
The town's coast faces Bude Bay in the Celtic Sea, part of the Atlantic Ocean.
Bude used to be important as a harbor and later as a source of sea sand, useful for improving soil on land. In the Victorian era, the town was transformed into a seaside resort. Thanks to the new railroad tracks, it became a popular tourist destination in the 20th century.
In the 18th century, Bude had a small unprotected tidal harbor. The Bude Canal Company built a canal and improved the harbor. These days, about twenty small boats use the tidal moorings of the original harbor in the summer; most of them do sport fishing, but there is also a small, semi-commercial crab and lobster fishery.
