Ussuriysk is located 112 km from Vladivostok on the Komarovka and Rakovka rivers, in a basin between the hills. The second largest city in Primorsky Krai.
Ussuriysk arose on the site of the ancient Chinese city Suipin, founded in the 12th and 13th centuries. On its territory, there are many interesting monuments. One of the symbols of Ussuriysk is a huge stone tortoise found during excavations of ancient Chinese burials. Today you can see it in the city park. One of the largest enterprises of the city is a locomotive plant, whose products are bought by Russian Railways. There is even a monument to the locomotive El-629 in Ussuriysk.
And near the railway station you can see a monument erected in honor of the machinists and workers who died during the Great Patriotic War. It is noteworthy that under the monument there is a hidden capsule with a testament to the descendants, which is planned to open in 2045 - 100 years after the end of WWII.
