The first mention of the fortifications in Soave dates back to the 10th century during the reign of King Berengar I of Italy. Soave Castle is a typical medieval military fortress and is one of the best examples of castle architecture in Veneto. The castle has a high central tower, around which the walls form three courtyards with a small suspension bridge. The castle walls go downhill and cover the entire medieval city.
