The San Diego Zoo in California is the most visited zoo in the United States and one of the most popular in the world, attracting more than 4 million visitors annually. On an area of 40 hectares, the zoo contains more than 3,700 individuals of 650 species and subspecies of animals. It has more than 700 thousand species of exotic plants, including more than 40 species of bamboo for feeding large pandas and 18 variations of eucalyptus for feeding koala marsupial bears. The San Diego Zoo was one of the first in the world to introduce the possibility of keeping animals in conditions close to natural, without cages and aviaries.
