Webcam Gabrovo. Stefan Karadja Boulevard

On both banks of the Yantra River at Shipka Pass in Bulgaria stretches the town of Gabrovo, the center of the region and community of the same name. It is located on the slope of the Stara Planina Mountain Range. Founded as a small village, Gabrovo began to grow and develop actively from 1287 to 1393. At that time it was a part of the Second Bulgarian Empire, the capital of which was nearby Veliko Tarnovo.

During the Ottoman conquest of the Balkan Peninsula Gabrovo grew dramatically due to the inflow of endless people from the occupied zones of Bulgaria. It acquired city status in 1860. On the city territory grateful Bulgarians erected a monument to the Russian soldiers who held the defense of Shipka and died from deadly wounds and diseases in the town.
After the long-awaited liberation in 1878 the town began to rapidly develop and beautify.

In a short period of time it was transformed into an industrial center of the country. In today's city of engineering and light industry companies operate. There are historical and national museums, Gymnasium Aprylov, among the pupils of which famous Bulgarian citizens Emmanuel Manolov, Aleko Konstantinov and other eminent persons of the country were.

The gymnasium building, which rises in the central part of the city, was erected at the expense of the initiator of its construction, merchant and literary figure Vasil Aprylov. The Hristo Tsokev Art Gallery displays pictures by Bulgarian and foreign artists. The town is rich in historical inheritance from the past centuries.

The church of Assumption was built in 1865. There are masterpieces of Trevnensky masters - icons and iconostasis with woodcarving inside its walls. In the center there is a tower with a clock, dating back to 1835. The clock mechanism was made by hand by city craftsmen. The bell was poured by Viennese craftsmen. The cobblestone sidewalk on Opilchenska Street has been preserved. On a rocky island on the river Yantra in the center of the town stands a monument to the founder of the town - Racho Kovacs.

Gabrovo is considered the capital of the Bulgarian humor. There are regular festivals of humor, a house of humor and satire. Gabrovo inhabitants themselves are often the characters of jokes, where they are usually portrayed as a rarely stingy people.
