Webcam Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Kashubian village Swarzewo is famous all over the region for the miraculous statue of the Virgin Mary, which is carefully preserved in the local parish church. Hundreds of believers come to see it. However, it is not easy to do so now, because the statue is rarely shown to the public.
The story of how the statue of Our Lady appeared in Svazhevo is very interesting! Gothic statue was brought to the Polish coast by Dutch sailors.
They installed it in the open air as a gratitude for their miraculous rescue during the strongest storm. The inhabitants of the village of Svazhevo, seeing the unusual gift, thought: the village did not even have a small chapel where the statue could be placed, so they carefully transported it to the neighboring settlement of Hel, which is located at the end of the spit of the same name.
There the statue stood until the Reformation and then was thrown into the sea. Somehow the statue was nailed to its former location near Svazhevo. It was then transferred to the local church, where it remains today. A chapel was erected on the seashore, where the figure of the Virgin Mary was found, and soon a spring with curative water began to run in this temple.
A statue of the Virgin Mary is located on the main altar of the church. The modern church building was built in 1880 in the Neo-Gothic style. It replaced a previous church that did not suit the needs of the locals. In addition to the miraculous image, there is an unusual painting from 1684, which shows an old map of the Svazevo area and the path the statue took until it ended up in the local church.
