Chelyabinsk is a city in the Russian Federation, the administrative center of the Chelyabinsk Region, the seventh largest in terms of population and the sixteenth largest in terms of area. The starting point of the Trans-Siberian Railway in the west. The second largest cultural, economic, business and political center of Ural Federal District. Population 1 179 288 (2022).
The city is situated on the geological border of the Urals and Siberia, in the Asian part of Russia, on the eastern slope of the Ural Mountains, on both banks of the Miass River (Tobol basin).
Founded in 1736 as a fortress, Chelyabinsk to the XIX century became one of the major trading centers of the Urals, and by the end of the century and the whole of Russia in connection with the appearance in 1892 the city c Moscow train service.
