Plekhanov Square in Lipetsk is one of the central city squares. It is a relatively new topographic unit, because the square was formed in 1972. It was named after the famous Soviet political figure G.V. Plekhanov, the philosopher, the engine of Marxist ideas.
On Plekhanov Square there are no unique historical landmarks. Most of the buildings on it were built during the Soviet era. Here is the House of Life, reconstructed and rebuilt into a business center, not far from it - the Central Department Store, as well as the House of Radio and Press. Under the square is an underpass, which was built in the 1970s.
In 2008 a monument to the founders of the city was installed in the center of the square. The sculpture is a metal pillar, topped with a guardian angel figure. At the base of the column are placed sculptures of people representing different estates of the era of Peter the Great.
