Fredriksten is a fortress in Halden, Norway. The remaining parts of the fortress were built in 1640-45. The construction of fortifications in the city was due to military needs for defense during the so-called Hannibal War (Hannibalsfeiden), known in Sweden as the Torstensons krig War, which was part of the Thirty Years ' War between the united kingdom of Denmark, Norway and Sweden. The fortress was completed in 1661 and named after the king of the Danish-Norwegian Union Frederick III (1609-1670).
