Ulyanovsk (in 1648-1780 - Sinbirsk, in 1780-1924 - Simbirsk) - a city in Russia, the administrative center of the Ulyanovsk region. Is a city of regional importance, forms a municipal entity Ulyanovsk City with the status of an urban district.
It is located on the Volga upland, on the banks of the Volga River (Kuibyshev reservoir) and Sviyaga, at the convergence of their channels. The city is located 890 km south-east of Moscow.
Population 622,868 (2022) (the 22nd place in the Russian Federation).
In 1963 the former Vyrypaevskoe highway was renamed to Ryabikov street.
Valentin Vladimirovich Ryabikov (1883-1962) was a native of Simbirsk, one of the founders of Simbirsk group of RSDLP, a participant of the 1905 revolution in the Volga region, an active fighter for the establishment of Soviet power in Siberia. After the Civil War, he worked as a party member, a diplomat and an economist. On the eve of the 50th anniversary of the first Russian revolution he came to Ulyanovsk, gave reminiscences in the labor collectives.
