Mytishchi is the largest district center near Moscow. It is located on the Yauza River, 19 km from the capital. The origin of the name Mytishchi is very interesting. In the 11-13 centuries on the territory of today's Mytishchi was Mytishchi ancient settlement.
In it was a point for collecting duties from all those passing into the capital. The duties were called "Myt". Thus was born the name of this city. The status of the city was received in 1925.
Great importance in the development of Mytishchi played such historical figures as Nicholas II, Catherine II and Alexander Suvorov.
The city has many ancient monuments of architecture, churches and temples. At different times in Mytishchi lived such historical figures as Boris Godunov, Ivan the Terrible and Vasily the Dark. Not far from Mytishchi, in the village Taynitskoe, was the residence of Russian emperors. Already in 1779 the first water pipe was built in Mytishchi to supply drinking water to Moscow. Surprisingly, a part of this water supply system survives to this day.
The population of the town is 235 thousand people.
