Victory Prospect is the longest street in the city and the only one that stretches from the Industrialny District to the Zarechye neighborhood. By right, it can be called one of the main and popular streets of Cherepovets. The avenue has a very rich history. At different times different names. Street in honor of St. George the Victorious, the Reverend Theodosius, the Red Army, the writer Gogol. The length of the avenue today is 11 km. It stretches from Mira Street to Olimpiyskaya Street.
Of course, it has not always been so. Until the 1930s, the city did not go beyond the borders, which were before the revolution. And Krasnoarmeyskaya street stretched from Field street, now M. Gorky street, to the bank of the river Yagorba. Then there was a bridge, which went on the road to the village of Borki. Already in the 30s, the city stepped over the Yagorba, and gradually the village joined the city. And the road that went to the village in 1939 was named "Zarechny Trakt". Thus began the Zarechnaya history of the modern avenue. This name did not last long, in 1940 Zarechny Tract was renamed into Gogol Street.
After the Great Patriotic War, the city began to change rapidly. The construction of a metallurgical plant began. Many high-rise buildings began to replace the wooden houses with vegetable gardens. And many citizens, of course, remember how you could walk down the avenue along the wooden houses, behind which there were already built nine and five-story buildings, and the roads were not as wide as today, and the launch of the streetcar was only in the distant plans.
In 1975, the country celebrated the 30th anniversary of the great victory. In this regard on April 20, the executive committee of the Cherepovets City Council of Workers' Deputies decided to rename Gogol street into Victory Avenue. At the same time, Victory Square appeared at the intersection of Prospekt and Arkhangelska street. It is still called so unofficially. The people used to call this crossroads "draught", because the wind always blew there, and it is believed that this place has the lowest temperature. In 1975, the cinema was also built, the name of which was given to "Pobeda". And in 1977, Krasnoarmeiskaya Street was named Victory Avenue.
In 1992, the avenue became even longer. According to the new layout, it was extended to Peace Street. This part of the street popularly called "appendix", there used to be a tram-bus running from the intersection of streets Vologda and Victory Avenue to Metallurgov Street. The intersection of Victory and Soviet was called "Pyatachok", and the avenue itself - "Bolshak", because it's a very big street, runs through the whole city.
