Webcam Poland Krakow, Wawel Castle
Wawel Castle-located on the left bank of the Vistula, at an altitude of 228 meters above sea level. Based on the excavations, historians have concluded that the first fortifications on the Wawel hill appeared in the 11th century. In 1724-1728, the reconstruction of the castle began, but after Poland lost its independence, the castle turned into a barracks for Austrian soldiers. In 1905, the Poles bought Wawel from the Austrian Empire and began restoration work, which has lasted for more than a hundred years and continues to this day. In 1930, the Wawel Castle became the official residence of the head of state, and part of the premises was given over to the museum.
