Coburg is a city on the River Itz (a tributary of the Main) in central Germany. It is located in Upper Franconia (Oberfranken) in the north of Bavaria.Until 1918, Coburg was the seat of the dukes of the state of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha (representatives of this dynasty also ruled a number of European states). Coburg is dominated by the second largest surviving fortress in Germany, the Veste, which is also known as the "Crown of Franconia". The headquarters of one of the largest German insurance companies "HUK-Coburg"is located in Coburg.
