Isfahan is a city in Iran on the banks of the Zayandeh River, located 340 km south of Tehran.
The city has a large number of monuments of Islamic architecture of the XI-XIX centuries. Imam Square and the Friday Mosque, a World Heritage site, are particularly famous. In Iran, the city is often called Nesf-e jehan ("Half the World").
