Omsk is a large industrial center and transportation hub of Russia, the administrative center of the Omsk region. The city is located on the banks of the Irtysh and Om rivers, hence its name.

Omsk was founded by a Cossack detachment in 1716 and originally served as a border fortress, built to protect the Russian Empire from nomad raids. For a long time Omsk served as a fortress. In the XIX century Omsk was very important for the country and was the center of the West Siberian, and then the steppe Governorate-General. During the civil war Omsk was the capital of the Russian state and the White Russia, after which it even had the unofficial name "the third capital".

During the Soviet years, Omsk expanded considerably by merging with the nearby towns and settlements. Today the city is actively developing, new housing is being built, roads are being reconstructed, and the population is growing. Omsk is considered one of the most attractive Russian cities for business development.
