Webcam Kurgan. Proletarskaya Street, Gogol Street

Kurgan is one of the oldest cities in the Urals, the administrative center of the region to which it gave its name. This region is located in the Trans-Urals, a vast region stretching between Siberia and the Ural Mountains. The city itself is often called the gateway to Siberia. Kurgan, which traces its history back to the 17th century, has an interesting past, and some of its corners are still covered with the spirit of pre-revolutionary Russia. More than a hundred monuments of architecture, which have the status of cultural heritage sites, have survived here. The picturesque surroundings of the town are famous for its romantic lakes and mysterious lakes, surrounded by pine forests.

The town received its name from the prehistoric burial mounds, kurgans, which stood on the high bank of the Tobol River. Born as a small settlement, the town first served as a fortress to repel attacks of nomads. Then the sprawling provincial town became the district capital, and in the last century it has become a major industrial center.

Kurgan's merchant past is preserved by its wooden mansions, whose appearance contrasts sharply with the surrounding concrete buildings. Among the important historical sites - the old houses, where in the 30 years of the XIX century exiled here found shelter members of the December uprising in 1825. In one of these estates is located the Museum of Decembrists, which must be visited by all guests of the city. You can visit Kurgan's other museums - the History Museum, the Museum of Local Lore and the Art Museum.

Kurgan is home to theaters, cinemas and a number of exhibition centers. Kurgan offers its visitors hotels which are mostly three-star, as well as apartments and hostels. The town offers decent restaurants, bars and night entertainment venues.
