Webcam Katowice. Jerzy Zientek Ring, Monument to the Silesian Insurgents
Jerzego Ziętka Ring (Rondo Generała Jerzego Ziętka) in Katowice is a traffic circle in the city center, in the Silesian Voivodeship in southern Poland. At this main interchange intersect Aleja Korfantego and Road 79, part of the Droga Route.
In order to provide easy passage through the center of Katowice, two tunnels 657 and 650 meters long were built. The traffic circle is accessed by exits, which are the exit to the city center. Also, new buses and streetcar stations were built, fully equipped to serve the disabled.
The roundabout dedicated to General Jerzy Zentek has three levels. On the -1 level there is a tunnel, on the first floor there are offices of various companies and on the +1 level there is the city information center. A glass dome completes everything.
General Jerzy Zientek, for whom the Ring is named, and Wojciech Korfanty were named two of the most important Silesian men in the 20th century by the Gazeta Wyborcza; Korfanty came first, Zientek second.
The Monument to the Silesian Insurgents (Pomnik Powstańców ląskich) in Katowice is a monument dedicated to the participants in the three Silesian uprisings of 1919, 1920 and 1921, whose aim was to make the Upper Silesia region part of the newly independent Polish state.
The monument was inaugurated on September 1, 1967, designed by the sculptor and architect Wojciech Zablocki. The wings symbolize the three uprisings, and the names of the places where the battles were fought are engraved on the vertical slopes.
