Asahikawa is the central city of Japan, the administrative center of Kamikawa County.
Asahikawa was a military city. Today, the second division of the Northern Army of the Japan Self-Defense Forces is located here. The city is crossed by dozens of river channels, so there are more than 740 bridges in the city.
