Balneário Camboriú is a city and municipality on the Atlantic coast of southeastern Brazil, part of the state of Santa Catarina, one of the most prosperous and wealthy regions of the country; part of the Mesorregião do Vale do Itajaí. The city is located 81 km north of the state capital Florianopolis, 609 km south of São Paulo and 1047 km south of Rio de Janeiro. The city is bordered on the west by the Rio Camboriu River, which flows into the ocean.
The municipality covers an area of 46 km ². Its population is about 135 thousand people, and in summer it increases to 1 million and more.
Balneário Camborio is a popular seaside resort for Brazilians.
The resort is served by a small airport "Aeroporto Internacional Ministro Victor Konder", located 12 km from the city, in the neighboring municipality of Navegantes (port. Navegantes).
The city is notable for the many high-rise buildings located in close proximity to the coast. The rich nature, extensive sandy beaches, plenty of nightclubs, restaurants, bars, cafes and entertainment complexes have turned the municipality into a popular resort destination for tourists of all ages.
Although the town has grown considerably and has become quite an upscale resort, the local fishermen still go out to the ocean every day for their catch.
Balneario Camboriu is one of the youngest towns in the country. It was built as a resort and today is one of the most popular seaside resorts in Brazil with developed infrastructure. Along the entire Atlantic coast of the municipality stretches a magnificent beach of pure white sand.
