Alter Garten-the central square of Schwerin. The square has a rectangular shape, its architectural ensemble is formed by several historical buildings: the Schwerin State Museum is located in the northeast, the Mecklenburg State Theater is located in the northern corner of the square, the Triumphal Column is installed on the southwest side, the Old Palace and the State Chancellery are located on the northwest side. The square has existed since the 9th century.
