Webcam Edessa. Waterfall
In the region of Central Macedonia lies the city of Edessa, formerly known as Woden. In ancient times it developed as a major center where the trade routes to Thessaloniki, Athens, Byzantine Constantinople and glittering Rome converged. In 1389, the inhabitants of Edessa defended their city for seven months against the Turkish conquerors.
The Ottoman Empire would never take it, but there was a traitor among the townspeople, who contributed to the fact that the fortress fell under the onslaught of the Turks. The Orthodox monk Seraphim led the defense of the city. The invaders who entered Edessa threw him into the waterfall, which has since been called The Monk Within.
The waterfalls (some quite small and two really huge) have nowadays become the hallmark of Edessa resort. Also here tourists are attracted by other natural beauties of the city: numerous water channels, large green parks (in honor of Alexander the Great, Cataracton, Kiupri), small bridges spanning the city's waterways. In Greece, according to experienced travelers, there is no more romantic and beautiful city than Edessa. Perhaps that's why more and more tourists from different parts of the world visit it every year.
