Located in the northern part of the region on the left bank of the Volga: Akhtuba, Vladimirovka and Kalmynka, 292 km north of Astrakhan.
A lot is associated with the name of Valery Pavlovich Chkalov in the city of Akhtubinsk. He was the founder of the State Flight Testing Centre, which later became the main township-forming enterprise that still occupies the leading position today.

A monument to Valery Pavlovich Chkalov decorated a small town square in front of the park of culture and leisure in 2010. The city administration presented this small memorial to the locals in honor of the 90th anniversary of the GLIC, which is the pride of Akhtubinsk. The authors of the work were Volgograd sculptors, who made the monument of ceramic plastic in a fairly short time.
