Herend is a small town in Hungary, not far from Veszprém.
The city is known for its long tradition of producing excellent porcelain. Founded in 1826, Herend Porcelain Manufactory is one of the world's largest ceramic factories, specializing in luxurious hand-painted and gilded porcelain.
In the mid-19th century, he was a supplier to the Habsburg dynasty and aristocratic clients throughout Europe. Many of his classic models are still in production. After the fall of communism in Hungary, the factory was privatized and is now 75% owned by its management and workers, exporting to more than 60 countries. Prince William, Duke of Cambridge and Catherine Middleton received a special painted Herend porcelain as a wedding gift from Hungary on April 29, 2011.
