Webcam Pantelleria Island. Beach at Yacht Marina Hotel

At a considerable distance from Sicily, already closer to the coast of Tunisia than to Italy, there is a small (only 83 km²) volcanic island called Pantelleria. This lonely island, despite its remoteness, has played a role in the history of the Mediterranean, and even now continues to be on the radar of tourists and popular people in Europe.

Nowadays, it is permanently inhabited by about 7.5 thousand people, concentrated in the central town Pantelleria and a few small villages such as Siba. Administratively, the whole island and its settlements belong to the province of Trapani.

Despite its rather poor nature and small size, the island has managed to attract a considerable number of tourists who call it "the black pearl of Sicily". There are interesting places and attractive objects, aimed at different tastes. The ancient lovers can go to the west and northwest coast to see the ruins of ancient fortified settlements, bounded by stone walls of obsidian (a particularly durable local stone of volcanic origin).

Here the ruins of ancient huts are on display, artifacts from which can be seen in the Syracuse Museum. On the opposite, southeastern edge of the island, connoisseurs are attracted by the ruins of a necropolis belonging to the Cesi culture. These are peculiar round towers, up to 7 meters high, in which burials were made. There are about fifty such sesi preserved on the island. The ruins are about 5 thousand years old when the settlement of Murcia existed there. The necropolis at the village of Ceci is one of the largest excavated in the Mediterranean.

The island offers a huge field of activity for lovers of outdoor activities. Firstly, it is a great place for diving. The water near the shores is very clear, steep cliffs go into the blue depths, filled with many fish and bizarre stones. A particularly popular place to dive is Cala Gadir, on the east of the island. Here in ancient times was the dock of the Phoenicians, the structure which can still be seen under water today. Here, under the water, there are also thermal springs. In some places, the water at their exit points has a temperature of 60°.
