The first Komsomol organization in Krasnoyarsk was founded on February 17, 1920 in the railway workshops of Krasnoyarsk station. Komsomol was a mass youth organization, which was the initiator of many initiatives. Komsomol members were a striking force of new buildings of the first five-year plans. By the mid-1950s, the elimination of the system of camps and forced settlements created a serious problem of labor shortages. The government drafted young people to work at the Siberian construction sites. By 1958, more than twelve thousand Komsomol and non-union youth from central regions of the USSR came to the city. Many apartment buildings in our city were built with the help of Komsomol members.
