Neum, the center of the municipality of the same name and a popular resort, lies on the Adriatic Sea. It is located in the south of the country near the Croatian border. The length of the town is 9 kilometers, but due to the close proximity of the uninhabited Klek peninsula, the total length of the coast of the country reaches 24.5 kilometers.

Neum has had various Mediterranean overlords in antiquity and in the medieval period. Since the 14th century, it was part of the Dubrovnik Republic. Later, in 1699, Neum became part of the Ottoman Empire in the cession of Dubrovnik, and remained so until 1878.
Neum was annexed by Austria-Hungary in 1908. After its dissolution, it became part of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes, which in 1929 was transformed into Yugoslavia.
During World War II, the city was part of Ustasha Croatia. It became Bosnian in 1945. At that time, new union republics were formed as part of the new state of Yugoslavia. In 1992, when Bosnia and Herzegovina seceded from Yugoslavia, border posts were established in the south and north of the city.
The city is the only seaside resort in Bosnia. Shuttle buses and trains from different parts of the country constantly run to it.
