Webcam Spain, Canary Islands, Gran Canaria, Maspalomas Dunes
Webcam shows the Maspalomas Dunes on Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands in Spain.
The Maspalomas Dunes are a natural monument, one of the most famous landmarks of the island of Gran Canaria and a huge beach. The dunes are located in the resort town of Maspalomas in the south of the island. The attraction is a desert with dunes covering an area of 4 km².
Under the influence of the wind the sand dunes constantly move from east to west by about 2 - 5 meters per year. Maspalomas and the neighboring Playa del Inglés form a united seaside resort, and in 1987 the area was declared a Maspalomas Reserve. Nearby are the El Faro de Maspalomas lighthouse, which is 68 meters high, and the La Charca lagoon, a conservation area and stopover point for birds migrating from Europe to Africa.
