Petrozavodsk is an ancient city in northwest Russia, located 1090 kilometers from Moscow and 412 kilometers from St. Petersburg. Petrozavodsk, the same age as and almost the namesake of St. Petersburg, was founded at the mouth of the Lososinka River, on the shore of Lake Onega, at the behest of Peter the Great, and was also named in honor of the reforming tsar.
Petrozavodsk is an industrial, cultural and scientific center with a rich history.

Here are located institutions of higher education, branches of the Academy of Sciences, theaters and museums, industrial enterprises. The city, which has the status of the capital of the Republic of Karelia and the administrative center of Prionezhsky District, has about 270,000 inhabitants.

Petrozavodsk has shipyards, several large machine-building plants producing products for the energy sector, timber and furniture manufacturing enterprises, and many other industries. The stone-working industry of Petrozavodsk is famous for beautiful finishing materials from the Karelian rocks - pink quartzite, diabase, granite of several rare shades. Karelian stone can be seen in decoration of interiors and facades of public buildings, museums and theaters all over the country, it is willingly purchased abroad.
The city played an outstanding role during the Great Patriotic War. In April 2015, Petrozavodsk was awarded the status of City of Military Glory. Since then, one of the modern sights appeared here - a memorial stele with the image of the city's coat of arms and the text of the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation on the assignment of this honorary title.

In the city and its surroundings you can see many historical and cultural monuments, this region of lakes and forests has always attracted travelers. In recent decades Petrozavodsk has become the largest tourist center in Karelia, claiming a worthy place among the centers of international tourism. From Moscow regularly fly passenger planes here, a network of roads and railroads connects the city with the capital and St. Petersburg. From Petrozavodsk start traveling to numerous islands of the Onega and Ladoga, the famous ancient Karelian monasteries and hermitages, tours to national parks. Here you can wonderfully fish and relax, do yachting and rafting on the rivers, go on a fascinating cruise on the picturesque Onega Lake on a comfortable motor ship.
