The bridge is the only road crossing over Trondheimsfjord, and is located along Norwegian County Road 755. The bridge was listed as a cultural heritage site in 2007.
The main contractor was Aker; and after the bridge was completed, maintenance was taken over by the Nord Trøndelag Public Roads Authority. The cost of the bridge was 200 million kroner.
- The bridge is one of the longest cable-stayed bridges in the world at the time of construction, with a length of 1,010 meters.
- The span is 530 meters and the two pylons are 152 meters above sea level.
- The span is 2.15 meters deep and 13 meters wide, with two lanes for cars and one for pedestrians and bicycles.
- It is the longest reinforced concrete cable-stayed span.
- The under bridge clearance is 45 meters.
- The initial construction work also included 1.6 km of new road, including a rest area on the Mosvik side.
- The bridge used 19,600 cubic meters (25,600 cubic yards) of concrete, and 208 cables totaling 33 kilometers in length weighed 1,030 tons.
- The cables range in diameter from 52 to 85 millimeters and can be replaced separately if necessary. The foundations of the bridge rest on bedrock below the seabed beneath each pylon.
- The bridge was built to withstand winds up to 48.5 meters per second (century storms) and was designed to withstand earthquakes.
