Bergen is the second largest city in Norway, the capital of Fylke Hordaland and the largest city in Western Norway. It is located in the west of the country, on the North Sea coast in the Midthorland region. It occupies the Bergen Peninsula, protected from the sea by the islands of Askey, Holsney and Sutra.
In the heart of Bergen is the quiet lake of Lille Lungegårdsvann. On its western bank is the Festplassen (Festplassen) — the square where the city's festivals are organized. From Festplassen begins the boulevard Ole Bullsplass (Ole Bulls Plass), which goes to the National Theater (Den Nationale Scene). To the north of Festplassen is the famous Fish Market (Fisketorget). The famous art galleries of Bergen are located on the southern shore of the lake.
