Wuxi is one of the largest cities in China's Jiangsu Province, lies at the bottom of the Yangtze River, 128 km from Shanghai and 183 km from Nanjing.
The name of the city sounds very interesting in Russian. From the Chinese word "wu" literally translates as "no tin". And before the tin mines were not worked out to the end of the city had another name and sounded as "Yuxi", which in Chinese translates as "is tin".

The depth of the fairway is 2 to 3 m. The canal is equipped with 21 locks. The canal connects the Huanghe and Yangtze rivers, including the beds of such rivers as the Baikhe, Weihe, Sishui and others, as well as several lakes.
The Beijing-Hangzhou Canal (Wuxi section) has a total length of 40.6 kilometers from Dayao Road behind the South Gate to Shuanghejian behind the North Gate.
