Webcam Marmari. Port
Marmari is a small coastal town in the southern part of the Greek island of Evia, about 120 km from the administrative center of Chalkis and only 15 km from one of the best and largest resort centers of Evia, Karistos. The Greek National Road 44 (Thebes-Halkida-Karistos) passes through Marmari. The town has its own port and during summer there is a regular ferry service to the port of Rafti.
In ancient times, in the vicinity of Marmari, the deposits of marble were heavily exploited, which actually gave the region its name "marmaros" (from Ancient Greek it means "white or shiny stone"), and later also the name of the modern settlement. The extraction of the famous Evian marble, also known as Karist stone, which was exported far beyond the borders of modern Greece, was one of the key factors in the economic development of southern Evia during the ancient era.
Today Marmari is a very popular resort with a very developed tourist infrastructure, where you will find everything you need for a comfortable holiday - excellent beaches and crystal clear turquoise waters of Aegean Sea, a wide choice of hotels and apartments, and, of course, many cozy tavernas and restaurants with traditional Greek cuisine. The best beaches in and around Marmari are small Marmari, Agia Irini and Kokini.
You can also spice up your beach holiday with a few local places of interest such as the church of St. George, the statue of the unknown sailor and the chapel of St. Irene. However, you can also go to the picturesque island of Petalion and visit the picturesque village of Paradisi.
