Savona is a city in northwestern Italy in the Liguria region. It is an important Mediterranean port and a major industrial center. Savona is located in the center of the Ligurian coast, but often tourists bypass it, visiting the surrounding resorts.
Although the city was substantially destroyed during World War II and has a mostly modern appearance, there are several ancient churches and some fine examples of medieval and later baroque architecture preserved in the historic center. In addition, Savona hides some true gems in terms of art, history and culture.
