Aalborg is a city in Denmark, in the center of Northern Jutland. Its geographical position on the Lim Fjord contributed to the fact that in the Middle Ages Aalborg became an important harbor, and later-an industrial center. Today, the city is undergoing a transition from an industrial city populated by the working class to a knowledge-intensive center. This is greatly facilitated by the University of Aalborg, founded in 1974. Aalborg is home to an air force base and a Lutheran diocese.
